Areta Joyce (Miller) Wentz, age 77 of Eaton, Ohio died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 2, 1933 in Preble County Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frank & Blanche B. (Piatt) Miller, Sr. She retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio after 33 years as a Group Leader, Facilitator, Lab Tech, and Raw Braider. She also was owner & operator of A J 's Recreation & Game Room of Eaton, Ohio. Areta loved serving as an Assistant Girl Scout Leader, contributor to the Boy Scouts of America, supporter of St. Jude's Hospital, and Past President of the Democratic Women's Society of Preble County. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Preceded by husband, Richard G. Wentz in 2008; son, Bradley G. Wentz in 1986; daughter, Laura Lynn Wentz in 1956; brothers, Charles Frank Miller, Jr. in 2001, Larry Russell Miller in 1960, and Stephen Paul Miller in 1974; sister, Judith Ann Bassett in 2009; son-in-law, William Rich in 2008.
Survived by daughters, Rita Ann Wentz Rich and Beth Ann Shelton both of Eaton, Ohio; son, Richard D. Wentz of Washington; grandchildren, Heidi (John) Bortel, Mia Wentz, Laura Steele, Josh Steele, Amanda Gabbard; great grandchildren, Nevaeh Newman, Ethan Floyd, Rylee Floyd, Jack Bortel and Kate Isabella Bortel; Crissy Spencer of Eaton, Ohio, who was like a daughter to Areta; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at First Church of God, 601 East Lexington Road, Eaton, Ohio 45320 with Rev. Jeremy Halstead officiating. Interment will be held in Wares Chapel in West Manchester, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements entrusted to Barnes Funeral Homes, Inc., 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio 45320. Memorial Contributions may be entrusted to Barnes Funeral Homes, Inc., the Wentz family will designate a charity at a later date.
