Alice E. (Clear) Plummer

Alice Clear Plummer, age 102 of Eaton, Ohio died May 15, 2008 in Oxford, Ohio. Born November 25, 1905 in Preble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph D. and Myrtle (Wright) Clear. Born at the dawn of a new century, she and her siblings Dorothy Stamback Buck and Malcolm Clear slid down the South Barron Street Hill when snow storms would come. Dorothy Fogarty Ritter was her life long friend and it was her father, Mr. Fogarty, Superintendent of the Preble County Consolidated Schools, that influenced Alice to pursue a higher education at a time when most women were denied this opportunity.

Slightly sassy and a bold adventurer, Alice , Pearl Mt. Castle ( Preble county teacher, 1903 -2006) and Henry Spring ( Spring 's Department store) drove a Model -T Ford to the 1932 Olympics in California. She was a talented athlete and played basketball, , tennis, and threw shotput and discus at Miami.

As a Commercial teacher in Eaton, Alice devised a co-op program where commercial students worked in real life jobs in the Eaton Community, a concept that was years ahead of its time

Married to Paul R. Plummer in 1934, the couple realized a life's dream when they bought a farm in Jackson Township and raised their daughters Dr. Ellen Buerk of Oxford and Ann Swiger of Jackson Township.
